Identity Theft
Don't share your identity…protect it.
The fastest growing crime today is identity theft. Identity theft occurs when someone steals key pieces of your personal identification such as social security number, bank account numbers, birth date etc. and uses it for illegal purposes.
Guaranty Bank uses the most powerful security tools available including Enhanced Login Protection and 128-bit Secure Socket Layers (SSL) encryption protection. But, we need your help.
Things You Can Do to Avoid Online Fraud:
- Install a personal firewall, anti-virus protection and anti-spy ware to keep intruders out and keep it updated.
- Keep your operating system updated with the latest security patches.
- Use a good spam filter. With the right filter, phishing e-mail messages may never even reach your inbox.
- Check site certificates. To verify the authenticity of a website, click on the padlock at the bottom of the page, then the details tab, and select subject. That will tell you who owns the site certificate. It should be the name of the company. Then, click on the site certification path tab and select the site owner listed above. A message will appear telling you if the certificate is valid. If it is not, you've likely reached a fraudulent page.
- Be smart with your passwords. Memorize your passwords - don't write them down. Don't use pets' names, family birth dates, or anything that ties back to you. Be sure to change your password every 30 to 60 days.
- Use more than one password. All of your protected accounts could be compromised if your password is stolen.
- Sign up for eAlerts: eAlerts are personalized notifications telling you when certain events take place.
- Sign out after an online banking session
More Ways to Protect Yourself from Fraud:
- Keep your Social Security number as private as possible.
- Know when your bills arrive each month and watch for unfamiliar transactions: be wary if they don't arrive.
- Check your credit reports regularly: monitor them for unfamiliar activities or credit cards in your name.
